Space Troopers! is an Archived project on LEGO CUUSOO created by NickRoyer on December 6th, 2011. He also collaborated with GreenLead and CrashSanders on this project. It was formerly known as "Space Marines!," however, the name had to change due to a request from another company. It reached Achieved status on December 3rd, 2012, right before the December 4th deadline for the 2012 Winter Review. When the results for the 2012 Winter Review were announced on October 21st, 2013, the project was Archived. It did not pass the LEGO Review process, and LEGO did not specify why it failed to pass.
It is also still the most commented-on project on the site, with over 13,033 comments due to the extremely creative fan base creating stories and spin off adventures. Inside the comment section you will find Brickkart's giant "Space Marines University", which has an estimated 600+ comments and is believed to be the largest comment stream on the site. When comments were closed for all Achieved projects, fans of Space Troopers! were especially upset.
The original name of the project, Space Marines!, belonged to another company, and they requested a name change, according to LEGO. The project was inaccessible during that time, and links to the project on the site were entitled: "Unavailable due to Trademark Request." It is unknown exactly which company asked for the name to be changed, but many believe it was Games Workshop, owners of Warhammer 40,000.

Before the achievement of even 5,000 supporters, NickRoyer created a Space Marines Visual Guide, to give lots of information on the Space Marines, their history, enemies, and other things pertaining to the entire idea itself, which can be viewed here.
Soon after the project reached the necessary 10,000 supporters, the creator, NickRoyer, made a photo and posted it on Flickr, for people to "tag", so that people could pretend to be a Space Marine. It can be seen here.

An exciting new theme or mini-theme for Lego Space: the Space Troopers! Taking place in the distant future, long after initial human-alien contact, the Space Troopers theme follows our intrepid band of Space Troopers across the galaxy as they fight evil aliens and explore treacherous terrain.
The Space Troopers theme has an awful lot to recommend it. It's got cool-looking Space Troopers as highly collectible minifigs, which could lend itself nicely to hot-selling battle pack-style sets; it's got plenty of options for exciting vehicles and locations, as there can always be a fleet of dropships, fighters, transports, mechs, and armored vehicles to support the Space Troopers. In addition to the obvious endless building opportunities, it would showcase an exciting, vigorous side of space exploration and conflict that, due to its thrilling conflict-oriented overtones, would be a hit with small children. The AFOL audience would love it, too, as it has high-quality, original figures and accessories, plus vehicles that I imagine would include plenty of MOC'able parts, not to mention the nostalgic factor of the theme being in essence an updated Neo-Classic-Space mixed with the vigorous ethos of Alien Conquest..
The Lego Group's emphasis on story would be well-supported, as each Space Trooper, alien, and scientist could have their own backstory and distinctive characteristics. Certain Space Troopers could have their own armor markings and individual face printing, further enhancing the collectibility and appeal of the theme.

The first set I'm recommending for production, hopefully at a $30-40 USD price point. It contains an APC, an Ugokin scuttler, as well as a selection of minifigs sure to please fans from the just-done-with-DUPLO set to the die-hard AFOLs

FAQ's:
Q: LEGO is making a Galaxy Squad theme. Wouldn't that make the Space Troopers irrelevant? A: There's a considerable thematic distance between the Galaxy Squad sets and the Space Troopers; the two themes could comfortably co-exist or the Space Troopers could go into production when Galaxy Squad is finished.
Q: Hey! LEGO's Galaxy Squad theme is based off of the Space Troopers! A: LEGO themes take time to develop. The Space Troopers have been in development for almost a year; it's probable that the Galaxy Squad theme was on the drawing board prior to the first Space Trooper ideas.
Q: What software did you use to create the images? A: I created the minifigs from scratch in Blender 3D, the free, open-source content-creation suite. For the sets, I prototyped them with real bricks, then adjust them in Lego Digital Designer before bringing them into LeoCad for optimization before the final Blender render. For the building instructions, I moved the models into LPub as well.
Q: Wow! That armor looks like the Series 7 "Galaxy Patrol" minifigure! Did Lego take your idea? A: No, it's the other way around. The Space Troopers' distinctive armor and helmet are based on the Galaxy Patrol Collectible Minifigure, so Lego would be able to make Space Troopers sets without having to make new molds for completely new parts.
Q: Are you going to make Troopers in other colors? A: Not in completely separate colors, but there will be pilots, engineers, and so on with different armor designs and printing. Space Navy personnel may appear in some sets, but they'll be blue-armored and will likely have a different armor design.

Greenlead: The man with the military knowledge to add that extra kick to the Space Troopers, Mr. Robin Chang has generously designed several vehicles for the Space Troopers, and comes up with all sorts of great backstory ideas.

Every Space Trooper needs a way to get from ship to planet, and CrashSanders has graciously furnished a drop-pod model that will feature in an upcoming set.

Congratulations on achieving 10,000 supporters. We now officially advance this project to the Review phase.
What happens now? This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A "LEGO Review Board" composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We'll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards.
The LEGO Review Begins in December This project qualifies for the quarterly review beginning in December, which will also include all other projects that reach 10,000 between now and December 3. For more information about the quarterly review process, see this blog post.
The review is a thorough process and from its start, and can take several months. When finished, we make a "go/no go" decision to develop and sell a product based on the Space Troopers concept.
When the review is complete, we will inform you of our decision. If green-lit, this project goes into the longest phase of the project; the Development phase. During this time, LEGO model designers refine the product and develop it for release, we create the product materials (box, instructions, marketing), and get everything ready for a production run. This also takes several months.

Review Results for Space Troopers Our team has thoroughly considered the possibility of releasing this project as a LEGO set according to the criteria of the LEGO Review. Unfortunately the LEGO Review Board has decided that we will not produce this project as a set.

How do we arrive at our decisions? By gaining 10,000 supporters, a fan-submitted project moves from the Idea Stage to the Review Stage, where it earns the opportunity to be considered as a future LEGO® set in a quarterly process called the “LEGO Review.” Gaining 10,000 Supporters is just the first step in this process.
A "LEGO Review Board" composed of professional set designers, product managers, marketing representatives, and other key team members examine each qualified project.
