UCS Sandcrawler is an Archived project on LEGO CUUSOO created by mb_bricks. It was uploaded on October 14th, 2011, and reached Achieved stage on August 12th, 2012. The 2012 Fall Review results were announced on June 14th, 2013, and so it was found out that the project was no longer being considered for production. It was the second project created by mb_bricks to reach achieved status.

Thanks, domo arigato gozaimasu, merci beaucoup!

We did it again – this is crazy!!! I am so glad and grateful for all your awesome support. Thanks to everyone who voted, shared and promoted my project!

Even though we probably may not see such a large and detailed project as an official set, there is still a good chance for a smaller, still awesome UCS scaled model (with around 3000-5000 parts) This will finally give the Sandcrawler the glory and attention it deserves – as it is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting and exciting vehicles in the whole STAR WARS saga.

All in all, let's keep our fingers crossed and again – thank you for being believers and dreamers!

Moving rusty rock – the Sandcrawler

Somehow I always liked this slow moving bulky vessel as I saw it the first time in "A new hope". Its clear lines and its massive size stands again the force of the sand and winds even in the harshest of desert conditions of Tatooine and keeps his small habitants safe. It's actual more than just a vehicle it’s a moving town. The Sandcrawler was originally used in his earlier days for mining purpose and was long time abandoned before the Jawas rediscovered it as their new mobile headquarters, shops and homes.

More than its adventurous background I love the proper design, the sharp edges and the proportions of the model a lot and I have always thought that the Sandcrawler never got as much love from the community as it deserves.

The build

The model itself is not that complex designed – it is just a big brown box! That was also my first thought, but there are more unusual angles as you are thinking at the first sight. Untill I was finally satisfied with the result, I ended up rebuilding the whole model three and the most difficult bits uncountable times during the process.

The back: one of the flashiest details are the two large cylinders actual the power generators of the vehicle. I had found a solution with curved slopes connected with snot adaptors on the greebly base plate. The cylinders are sticking through the roof and ending in different designed fans.

The front: the forward sweep of the crawler’s body is probably one of the most complex parts of the build. It’s consisting of irregular angles. I had decided to build all panels brick building wise instead of using plates – this decision didn’t make the whole intend easier, not at all! It might sound ridiculous, but achieving the proper angles took me weeks of developing and trial and error.

Wall pattern: I achieved the rusty and weathered appearance of the walls with different brown shades and the use of dark orange and bluish grey splashes as seen on the original model.

So here is the chance to turn the model in to an official LEGO set! Use the force! Sandcrawler1

Congratulations on all of the supporters! This is an incredible model and it captures a lot of detail from the Star Wars Jawa Sandcrawler.

Plus, it's HUUUUUUGE! As you can see from our Exclusive line, we're always open for a new challenge to produce big models. Will something like this pass the LEGO review? We can't wait to find out.

Best of luck on your journey to 10,000 supporters!

Dear mb_bricks,

Congratulations on passing this milestone of 5,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO for the UCS Sandcrawler! You're halfway there!

Though we'd love to have one of these things to drive around the office, we'll wait to produce a concept model during the Review process. As a part of our move to streamline the review process, we will not be producing concept models for projects before the review.

Best wishes as you continue on your journey to achieving 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO.

Utinni! What a model. It's huge, incredibly detailed, and it really captures the scale of the Sandcrawler as it was first seen in Episode IV: A New Hope.

But, ushabia namba kee koolee?

Congratulations on achieving 10,000 supporters. We now officially advance this project to the Review phase.

What happens now? This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A "LEGO Jury" composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We'll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards.

The LEGO Review Begins in September This project qualifies for the quarterly review beginning in September, which will also include all projects that reach 10,000 between now and September 3. For more information about the quarterly review process, see this blog post.

The review is a thorough process and from its start, and can take several months. When finished, we make a "go/no go" decision to develop and sell a product based on the UCS Sandcrawler concept.

When the review is complete, we will inform you of our decision. If green-lit, this project goes into the longest phase of the project; the Development phase. During this time, LEGO model designers refine the product and develop it for release, we create the product materials (box, instructions, marketing), and get everything ready for a production run. This also takes several months.

We will post follow-up information and our decision here.

Results of the LEGO Review for UCS Sandcrawler

2013.06.15

First and foremost, congratulations to mb_bricks for reaching 10,000 supporters a second time on LEGO CUUSOO, and toward everyone for all of the support of the UCS Sandcrawler™ project! The Fall LEGO Review has concluded and the LEGO Review Board has arrived at its decision about the three projects in review.

This is a project of epic proportions; a Sandcrawler that could potentially dwarf even the Taj Mahal, currently the largest LEGO set ever produced. Unfortunately we can’t approve this project in the LEGO Review based on our ongoing relationship and collaboration with Lucasfilm on LEGO Star Wars.

mb_bricks has been a pleasure to work with throughout this process. We also recognize the intense interest of all of you who supported this project, and we are sorry to deliver this disappointing news.
