- Super Mario Project - is an archived project on LEGO CUUSOO created by Ragaru on May 5th, 2012. It had a very energized supporter group for such a "small" project. Among its supporters were Tenebrae and DKong 5.4.12, who proposed ideas for character models (although Tenebrae was not able to support before the project was archived). It was archived due to a competing license between Nintendo and K'Nex.

The icon of game history: Super Mario along with his brother Luigi and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom, have inspired and entertained us for 27 years.

And will hopefully keep on doing so for many years to come!

An idea came to me the very moment I discovered the "Ultimate Block" system of LEGO bricks. The idea was so simple yet it inspired so much undefinable nostalgia and inspiration. This block idea I got consists of 4 parts, a 2x2 plate, two 2x1 bricks with brick relief, and a 2x2 tile with a centered stud on top. This became the most common Mario element, the Brick Blocks! You can see them in the top picture, iconic as they are, and some may feel the Mario nostalgia kick in and see the potential LEGO and Mario combined would possess!

The Mario games are varied, but the most memorable ones are the classic 2D side scrolling adventures of this amazing plumber, and not to forget, his Brother.

So the idea is simple, Bring the best elements of Mario to the LEGO format... And as an initial idea, a 2D side scrolling adventure in 3 dimensions, is the perfect solution! SM1

Having several sections would allow you to expand the world as desired. And as you can see, there are 5 different sections, but it would not necessarily mean 5 different products. Presenting a single product containing all the parts needed to construct one of the 5 sections, would allow you to build the section you like the most, and rebuild it to another once you feel the need of change in scenery. This would allow one single product that can expand your world by every set added to your collection. The parts included would also allow a whole new world of possibilities to expand your own visions of a Mario world!

Should it prove successful enough to become a continued theme, it would on a longer term introduce other themes and colour pallets so the variety would be expanded drastically. Also introduce larger play sets which would inspire even more. SM2

The Blocks will be essential in every set, with a greater number of Brick blocks, and some unique blocks in addition, such as the Mystery Block, Used Blocks and Note Blocks (Jump Block). These Blocks would require prints for 2x2 plates and 2x2 tiles (or center studded tiles), as well as 2x2 bricks. SM3

Including the essential items is a must, the Coins, Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Super Leaves, Stars and 1-Up Mushrooms, to name the current ones. SM4

I'll be returning with Minifigures, environmental variations for the section sets and castles!

Decision on Our Ability to Produce this Project

2012.08.09

First and foremost, congratulations on the over 1,100 supporters for this project on LEGO® CUUSOO! Your Super Mario models are amazing and capture the spirit of the classic game in LEGO bricks.

As we are huge Super Mario fans, it pains us to say we've looked into the licensing potential and another company has the construction toy license we will not consider Super Mario Bros. further.

The challenge with allowing IP-related projects on LEGO CUUSOO is that there is the potential of such a conflict, either with an existing license or with a competitive licensor. Still, it's our view that it is better to be open and allow for possibilities, knowing there will be "no" answers along the way, than shut out the potential of IP-based products altogether.

We have chosen to archive this project now since we know it is not feasible. There are too many projects to check each in-depth for license conflicts when they are first submitted, so instead we're looking deeper at projects that start to gain momentum.

Opening ourselves to new product suggestions invites popular ideas that don't always work. We are grateful for the spirit behind projects like the Super Mario Project and for the opportunity to be challenged. It keeps us sharp and looking toward the future of the LEGO brick.
